Overview

The Centive Network is an innovative decentralized monitoring and verification solution designed specifically for DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) services. By separating the incentive and consensus layers, Centive enables DePIN services to focus on providing consistent service quality, while Centive manages the consensus and validation process. Centive allows each DePIN project to tailor its reward distribution mechanisms and manage node contributions more efficiently.

The network is underpinned by real-time monitoring, validator-based consensus, and fault detection processes, which help to ensure the integrity of the DePIN network. Centive's custom deployment for each service ensures flexibility and scalability.

DePIN Service Benefits​

Centive offers DePIN services a more streamlined approach to contribution monitoring, fault detection, and reward distribution, allowing them to focus on improving service quality. Here are some key benefits:

  • Optimized Resource Allocation: By offloading the heavy burden of cryptographic proof generation to Centive's consensus and voting mechanisms, DePIN services can focus their resources on actual service delivery rather than proof of work.
  • Custom Distribution Mechanisms: Each DePIN project can choose its own reward distribution model, allowing for flexible, project-specific incentives. For example, some services might prefer a halving model, while others may choose linear reward systems.
  • Consensus and Verification: The Centive Network runs its own chain where validator consensus and secret voting take place. This network monitors the performance and contributions of nodes in the DePIN service, ensuring fairness and integrity.
  • Decentralized Fault Detection: Validators continuously monitor node activity. If faults are detected, validators conduct a secret vote to reach consensus. Nodes that consistently underperform or cheat can face slashing penalties.
  • Real-time Dashboards and Analytics: Centive provides comprehensive dashboards that allow nodes within the DePIN service to track their staking activity, rewards, and performance in real-time. The DePIN service itself gets a console UI to manage, monitor, and analyze node activity and network performance.
  • Scalability Across Chains: The Centive Network operates on its own chain, but the reward token and distribution mechanisms can be deployed on any chain, allowing DePIN services to operate across multiple ecosystems.

How Centive Works for DePIN Services​

1. Contribution Registration​

Each node in the DePIN service registers its contribution intent through the Centive Network. This intent is optimistic, meaning nodes commit their resources and get rewarded unless a fault is detected.

2. Monitoring and End-to-End Tests​

APM agents and continuous end-to-end tests track node performance in real-time. Contributions are measured based on the node's uptime, throughput, or computational resources, depending on the service type.

3. Validator Voting​

If a fault is detected, validators within Centive initiate a secret voting process to determine the validity of the fault report. Voting is hidden until all validators have cast their vote to prevent manipulation or bias.

4. Reward Distribution​

Once a consensus is reached, nodes are rewarded based on their contribution over time, not individual tasks. Dynamic reward mechanisms, including halving or time-based rewards, can be tailored to the DePIN service's needs. If a node fails to perform, it may be slashed, reducing or eliminating its rewards.

5. Dashboards and Analytics​

DePIN services and their nodes can access real-time analytics through dedicated dashboards, allowing them to track contributions, staking, rewards, and overall network health.
